Feast of St Eugene de Mazenod

The College Community came together last week to celebrate the feast of St Eugene de Mazenod with a moving liturgy honoring the founder of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. At Mazenod College, the Oblate Charism is at the heart of who we are. It shapes how we treat one another, how we approach learning, and how we serve our wider community. It calls us to:

  • See the needs of others, especially those on the margins.

  • Respond with courage and generosity, not standing back but stepping forward.

  • Build a strong and united community, where everyone belongs.

Importantly the message for this year was that this charism is not just something we learn about; it is something we are called to live.

Another highlight during Oblate week was the annual Mazenod College vs Panther’s football match. The Mazenod Panthers are celebrating 21 years this year and cater for all people with an intellectual disability regardless of ability. They have two teams that play in the AFLVIC/Football Integration Development Association (AFLVIC/FIDA).

It was another great game where the Panthers continued on their winning streak remaining undefeated. We thank Eden Foster MP for attending and presenting the Sharp/Johnson Shield to the winning team. Thanks to Phil Ryan (MOC1988), President of the Panthers, and Ben Phibbs, Head of Sport at Mazenod College, for organising this fantastic community event.

Exams & Final Assessments

In the coming weeks students will be engaged in completing final assessments and end of semester exams. Recently the College facilitated an Effective Study Skills Information Evening. Leading the evening were Ms Edwina Tribe (Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning), Mr Nate Fallon (Dean of Studies), and Mr Mateo Acosta Fernandez (MOC2021). The evening explored the key areas of neurobiology and learning, memory techniques, goals and time management, retrieval practices, controlling attention and focus along with managing stress. The evening was well attended and provided very practical strategies for students to implement in preparation for the upcoming exams and assessments.

Furthermore, Year 10 students completed the Morrisby Careers Report during Term 1 and in recent weeks each student had a one-on-one counselling session with a career’s practitioner. The Morrisby Careers Report provides students with personalised insights into their strengths, aptitudes, and interests, helping them make informed decisions about future study and career pathways. The report highlights suitable career options, subject recommendations, and potential pathways, giving students a clearer sense of direction. It is a valuable tool for guiding conversations between students, families, and staff, supporting informed and confident planning for suitable pathways and subject selection as they prepare for entering VCE next year.

All the best to the students for the upcoming exams.
