Principals Report

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

Over the past two weeks, our school community has continued to process the sad news that St Mary’s Primary School will close at the end of the 2026 school year. While this has been a difficult time for many, I want to acknowledge the outstanding support shown to our school, our staff, our students, and one another. The messages, conversations, kind words, memories and offers of support have been deeply appreciated. In a time of sadness, the spirit shown by our families, staff, students, parish and wider community has been remarkable. It is a reminder of the strength of St Mary’s and the deep connection people have to this school.

I also want to reassure families that St Mary’s will remain open and fully operational until the very last day of the 2026 school year. I understand there have been some concerns or questions about whether the school may close earlier than this. This will definitely not be happening. Our staff remain as committed as ever to providing a high-quality education, strong wellbeing support and a positive school experience for every child in our care.

It is our genuine hope that all families and students will remain with us through to the end of the year. We are determined to ensure the final six months of St Mary’s are filled with rich learning experiences, targeted interventions, special events, celebrations and opportunities for students to continue growing academically, socially and emotionally. Our expectations for learning, behaviour, care and respect will remain as high as ever.

As a community, we have been galvanised by the sad news of the closure. While there is grief, there is also a clear sense of pride, loyalty and love for this school. The spirit I have seen among parents, staff and students has been amazing. In the months ahead, it will be important that we continue to stick together, support one another and ensure our children see the very best of who we are as a community.

There will be time later in the year to celebrate, remember and honour the long and proud history of St Mary’s. For now, our focus remains firmly on our students and making sure each day continues to reflect the care, commitment and high expectations that have always been part of our school.

At the time of writing, we are also in the process of finalising our final Trivia Night for St Mary’s to be held on July 31st . This promises to be a wonderful community event and a great chance to come together, celebrate and enjoy one another’s company. Watch this space and get in early once details are released, as this event is sure to sell out!

Thank you again for the support you have shown. It means a great deal to our staff.

Kind Regards,
