FLOW Friday: Learning Beyond the Classroom

FLOW Friday

This year, we have begun FLOW Friday with our Year 5/6 students, and it has quickly become a wonderful part of our weekly learning. FLOW Friday is designed to provide students with opportunities to learn, connect and thrive in different ways, while also supporting wellbeing, engagement and positive relationships.

The word FLOW reflects the feeling we hope students experience during these sessions, being fully involved, active, challenged, connected and enjoying the moment. Through FLOW Friday, students are given opportunities to step outside the usual classroom routine and take part in activities that encourage teamwork, confidence, resilience, responsibility and fun.

This term, our students have been involved in four exciting activities: bike riding, hiking, fishing and dance. Each activity has offered something different, allowing students to discover new strengths, build connections with others and enjoy learning in a more hands-on and active way.

Bike Riding

Our bike riding group has been cruising through our beautiful local area, building confidence, independence and plenty of FLOW along the way! Each week, students have been learning what it means to ride safely and responsibly by practising single-file riding, clear hand signals, safe spacing and awareness of pedestrians, cars and other riders.

The group has shown fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and persistence as they take on new routes and challenges. There have been lots of smiles, plenty of encouragement and, of course, a few very well-earned hot chips along the way to celebrate their efforts! Bike riding has been a wonderful way for students to stay active, enjoy the outdoors and experience the fun of exploring our community together on two wheels.

Hiking

Our hiking group has enjoyed getting outdoors and exploring the stunning coastal environment we are so lucky to have around us. These walks have provided students with a chance to slow down, notice the world around them and appreciate the natural beauty of our local area.

Hiking has also been a wonderful opportunity for students to build stamina, practise teamwork and enjoy conversations with different peers and staff. Whether walking along tracks, taking in the views or supporting each other along the way, students have shown a positive attitude and a real sense of connection. It has been a beautiful way to promote wellbeing, gratitude and community.

Fishing

Our fishing group has loved spending time by the water, learning new skills and enjoying the calm, patient nature of fishing. Students have been developing practical skills such as setting up rods, using equipment safely and understanding the importance of respecting our marine environment.

Fishing has given students the chance to practise patience, persistence and responsibility. There has been plenty of excitement, lots of encouragement and some wonderful moments of celebration along the way.

Dance

Our dance group has brought energy, creativity and lots of fun to FLOW Friday. Students have had the opportunity to express themselves through movement, choreograph part of the routine and build confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment. They are preparing to present their performance at the Week 10 Assembly at the end of term.

The enthusiasm, laughter and confidence shown by the dance group has been a real highlight.
