Year 1/2 Learning Reflection

Daily practice of our High Frequency words.

We had the best time dressing up as our favourite book characters for Book Week! 

We loved getting into the library to read some of our favourite stories, as well as the fantastic CBCA nominated books for this year! It was especially awesome having students read a story to the class. A really special part of learning is seeing our students develop their skills and confidence and be able to share this with their peers! 

Daily phonics practice of the /ou/ sound and polysallabic words. 

Grade 2 Wrap Up. 

Book Week 2026 was a wonderful celebration of our love of reading! Students came dressed as their favourite book characters and proudly paraded around the gym. We explored a range of Book Week stories and worked together to story-map the events, characters and problems in each text. We discussed what we loved about the stories and then challenged ourselves to think about how we could take the ideas, characters and settings and make the stories our own.

In Core Literacy, we have been learning about the /ew/ sound and how it can be represented in different ways, including the spellings <ew>, <u> and <ue>. We have continued to consolidate our high-frequency words and are becoming increasingly confident readers and spellers. In Writing, we have been extending our sentence-level writing by developing our understanding of subjects and predicates, using descriptive adjectives and joining ideas with conjunctions such as because, and, so, but and or. 

In Mathematics, we have been practising skip counting, continuing our learning about mass and exploring how patterns can grow and shrink. We also investigated open and closed statistical problems and became very interested in collecting and representing data to answer some of our own “burning questions”!

In Systemic Knowledge Grade 2's have been learning about 'The Human Body'. We were excited to have our model skeleton arrive in our room to help us understand the Skeletal System, we had a little dance to the bone song and created our own model of the Skeleton System, which is now on display. Students were amazed to learn that the adult body has 206 bones and babies have around 270 bones that fuse together as they grown and develop.

Just a quick reminder that we have grade 2 Swimming program next week so please remind students to arrive at school with their bathers and bring their own towel, goggles and underwear in a separate bag.

Grade 1 Students have been attending swimming lessons and learning how to be safe around water.
