This week is National Science Week, a time when we celebrate the contributions that science has made and continues to make as a discipline. We have an especially strong Science Department at College and I’m grateful not only for the events they are putting on this week, but for their ongoing commitment to scientific endeavour and excellence. 

In addition to the consistently strong VCE results that our science students achieve, my hope is that all students will leave the College with an understanding and appreciation of the great good that scientific study has brought each of us. We have all benefited from the medical and technological advances made by scientists, and it is to our benefit to understand not only specific advances and new knowledge, but the mechanism by which they are attained – the scientific method. I would argue that positing and testing hypotheses, understanding proof, disproof and the nature of evidence, and some basic scientific epistemology improves our thinking and therefore our approach to the world across the disciplines and beyond into our broader lives. So, this Science Week – here’s to our scientists and all they have given us (and that’s from a card-carrying English teacher).

Global Experiences

Parents of students in Years 10-12 in 2027 should have received earlier this week information and a call for expressions of interest for the four 2027 tours being offered as part of the suite of Global Experiences 2027-2028. A reminder that expressions of interest are due by Friday 4 September.

REMINDER

Monday 24 August is a student-free day at the Senior School.  Parents, you have been invited to book student-parent-teacher interviews on this date.
