Alumni Stories

Calvin Cook (Class of 2017)
Calvin completed Year 12 in 2023 at Brighton Grammar School and is now in his second year of an electrical apprenticeship in Melbourne - and he is doing a deadly job!
According to Calvin’s boss, Michael Sharpe, Calvin’s work ethic and organisation is “seriously good stuff. “ Calvin is up at 5.30 am every day for work and consistently communicates if he is going to be late or absent. He is ‘banking’ some RDO's in order to store up his leave and be able to get back to Tiwi for breaks.
Michael has asked to get Calvin onto a project with more electrical work now, as his next challenge in the workplace.
Thanks to Maggie Pascoe and Ash Glassel for their continued support with accommodation and to Michael for this opportunity and for the mentoring on the job, particularly Daniel Dal Pos (pictured) who has been Calvin’s supervising A-Grade.
Georgie Burarrawanga-Wilson (Class of 2018)
MITS Alum Georgie Burarrawanga-Wilson was a participant in the recent ABC series called The Piano. Everyday pianists from all over Australia were invited to play the piano at busy locations around the country, and given the opportunity to play in a final concert in Sydney. Harry Connick Jr and Andrea Lam were judges, then mentors and guides throughout the series.
You can see Georgie on i-view in Series 1, Episode, 4 Sydney Metro (start at the 29.41 minute mark and Georgie appears at 30.10) - he’s described as the “very cool looking dude” and his performance and speaking are really impressive.
When he’s not on TV, Georgie is working in Darwin for Country Connect with Indigenous clients, having completed a Cert III in community online, via Townsville.
In 2023 Georgie completed Year 12 at Brisbane Music Industry College and he has since been regularly asked to work at the Brisbane Music Festival and last September was asked to help with the sound and production side of the theatre show “Big Name, No Blanket”, which is the story of the Warumpi band (of which Georgie’s Dad, George, was the front man).
