Boarding Houses

Lockington - Year 7

Year 7 students have returned to Melbourne with confidence and eagerness as we approach the footy season. With footy comes the cold weather, but all students are showing up on Sundays playing proud in their Richmond Junior Football club uniforms, with many MITS students winning best on ground this early on in the season.  Thanks to the MCC Foundation for generously supporting our students access to junior sport.

Students have enjoyed other weekend programs such as trampoline parks, swimming at the pool and had a great time at our long weekend camp in Victoria's high country. Students went on a challenging hike, swam in the creeks and rivers and enjoyed the downtime of kicking the footy and yarning around the firepit. It was a great three days spending time out on country.  Special thanks to Trinity Grammar for making this camping trip possible.

We look forward to engaging in boxing each Monday, with footy training and homework taking up the much of our time during the week. Students are looking forward to the upcoming Dreamtime festivities with the Richmond Football club next week.

Senior Girls

It has been a great start to Term 2 with lots happening in the Senior Girls Boarding House.

The Girls are well into footy season, with some juggling both football and basketball. It has been busy but exciting!

We had an All Staff and All Student Dinner last week, bringing the whole MITS community together for a great night and delicious feed - Chinese takeaway was a huge hit!

There’s been a great mix of activities so far, including footy and rugby games, movie nights, arts and crafts, and even a sewing session where some of the Girls made their own tote bags. A group also had the opportunity to attend Brooke Blurton’s book launch, which was a real highlight.

This Term, it’s the Girls turn to take part in Student Chef. Each Saturday evening, the Girls work in small groups to plan, shop and prepare dinner for the whole house with the support of a staff member from the kitchen team (Kat). They have made a fantastic start! This program is incredibly popular and gives the Girls a chance to build their cooking skills, manage a budget, and prepare a nutritious meal for 40 people.

Our homework program continues to grow, with more Girls actively seeking help from the A-Team tutors. It’s been great to see their confidence and independence building in this space.

A big focus this term is school attendance. We are encouraging the Girls to stay committed to their education and are supporting them to build consistent, positive school habits.

Thanks,
