Governing Council

At our recent Governing Council meeting we discussed the option of adding a zip up jacket to our Modbury School Uniform. We surveyed our community late last term and our community is in favour of this.  Bianca is currently working with our uniform supplier to arrange this. The zip up jacket will be in our Modbury bottle green with our school logo. Some samples sizes are now available in the Front Office if you are interested in looking at the sizing of the jacket. Pre-orders will open on Qkr once we have finalised the design with the supplier. Keep an eye out on Class Dojo for more information.

Approximate price of the zip-up jacket with school logo will be $45.00.

Learning Update from each area across the school
Pre School

We’ve enjoyed welcoming in a few new children and a second teacher, Tahlia, we all think she is a lot of fun!

As a staff team we are having rich critical conversations about our planning cycle and are excited about making improvements.

Early Years (Rooms 6,7 and 8)

Rm 6 students have been focusing on developing reading and writing skills through our DfE phonics program. In Maths, our learning focused on recognising patterns and part-part-whole in numbers. We also enjoyed our excursion to the Road Safety Centre on Friday of Week 3.

Room 8 Students have had a great start to Term 2 . We have revised some of our class Agreements and PBL values. We really enjoyed the Mother’s Day Stall. It was a rare and authentic opportunity for students to use money.

Footsteps Dance is lots of fun and great for coordination. We are really enjoying the dance component of the program.

Primary Years (Rooms 9, 11, 12

Students in Room 9 have had a great start to Term 2. This term we are continuing to learn about number in Maths and are practising our skills on note taking in English. Science has been fun looking at solids, liquids and gases. Students are improving with their independence skills and time management.

Room 11- We have had a great start to Term 2. In maths, we are working through multiplication and division at the moment. In English, we have started looking at Information Reports. In science, students have started looking at the Water Cycle which has been fascinating.

Rm 12 - In English, students have been learning about Norse Poetry which includes some history about vikings and literacy techniques such as free verse, kennings, similes and metaphors. Students have created their own Norse-style poem. In Mathematics, students have been learning about angles - how to use a protractor to measure and construct angles. This knowledge has been used in their project - design a dream home which needed to include 5x different types of angles.

Primary Special Class

Students in Room 10 are developing strong confidence through consistent daily routines and are increasingly demonstrating independence and effective self‑management skills as they transition between lessons and classes. We look forward to an engaging term of weekly Footsteps Dancing.

Specialists

PE - Students have been learning tennis and the associated skills such as the forehand and backhand ground stroke. Students will demonstrate their skills in mini/non-competitive games where they are challenged to maintain a rally with their peers for as long as possible.

SAPSASA - Well done to our students who represented Modbury School at the Cross Country and Athletics Carnival.

Technologies

Upper primary students are enjoying exploring VR through the Beacon Program in technology lessons.

Middle primary students are creating models of an inclusive playground they designed last term.

Early years students are learning about digital systems and how to write and follow an algorithm.
