During the day, families got to explore our classrooms and enjoy guided tours led by our student leaders.

In the evening, families experienced our vibrant learning environment, including:

• Open classrooms

• Student-led tours

• Live choir performance

• Student art displays

• Special activities and events

It was wonderful to see everyone.

Year 5/6 Zoo Excursion

On Monday 18th May, the year 5 and 6's went to the Melbourne Zoo to learn about animal adaptations for their inquiry unit: Wildlife Warriors. They took part in a Y5-6 Science and Geography program that explores how animal adaptations support survival in different ecosystems and how scientific understanding can guide caring for wildlife.

Myuna Farm

On Tuesday 26th of May the Foundation students visited Myuna Farm to learn more about animal habitats. We began by riding the farm train to the wetlands to get a closer look at the local fruit bats sleeping in the trees. We gathered in the barn to watch the farm show, where we met some chickens and even had the chance to milk a goat! After lunch, we enjoyed interacting with the rabbits, guinea pigs and lambs in the animal nursery. Finally, Farmer Jason took us on a tour of the paddocks, where we fed sheep, alpacas, emus, deer and our favourite, Alice the camel! We had a lovely time and learned so much on our excursion.

Police Visit

It was wonderful to welcome two police officers to Parkhill on Monday 1 June for a visit with our Foundation to Year 2 students.

The officers shared information about their important role in helping to keep our community safe and explained how they assist people every day. Students were excited to learn about the different parts of a police officer’s uniform and the equipment they use while on duty.

One of the highlights of the visit was getting an up-close look at the police car and learning how it helps officers respond to emergencies. Our students asked thoughtful questions, showed great curiosity, and thoroughly enjoyed this engaging and memorable learning experience.

Thank you to our visiting officers from Oakleigh Police Station for taking the time to educate, inspire, and connect with our students.

Drama

In Performing Arts this term, our focus is drama. Students have been learning to use their bodies and facial expressions to portray emotions by creating group tableaus (freeze frames).

Puppets and costumes and props, oh my! This term, students have been exploring the elements of drama through the use of puppets, costumes and props in improvised plays. We have seen many builders, grannies, fairies, knights and unicorns grace the Performing Arts room of late.

Choir

Last week, our Year 5/6 students did a wonderful job of teaching a vocal warm up to their younger choir friends. They can be seen in these photos teaching ‘ Move forward, move backward.’ It is always heartwarming to see the encouraging and kind interactions between students of different grade levels in our Year 1-6 Choir.
