Principal's Welcome
By Dale Mills
G’day Parkhill community,
It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight at Parkhill, with a range of excursions and sporting events complementing our regular learning and wellbeing programs. From our Preps enjoying their visit to the farm to our Year 4 students getting a taste of secondary school, our students continue to benefit from a wide variety of rich learning experiences. This pace certainly continues as we move towards the end of term.

On Sunday 24 May our Grounds subcommittee organised a Working Bee to help maintain and enhance our school grounds. It was fantastic to see so many families generously giving their time to support our school and help keep Parkhill such a welcoming and inviting environment.
A great deal was achieved, including weeding and tidying garden areas, refreshing tanbark in our play spaces and garden beds, and topping up the sandpits. Our sincere thanks go to all families who contributed on the day, and a special thank you to Adam for coordinating the Working Bee. You can read more about the team’s efforts later in this newsletter.
A reminder for everyone that next Monday, 8 June, is the King’s Birthday public holiday and Tuesday, 9 June is a Student Free Day. There are no students at school on either of these days. TheirCare will be running a program all day on the Tuesday if you require supervision for your child. For more information, please pop in to the Before or After School Care Room or visit www.theircare.com.au.
On Tuesday’s student free day, our staff will be updating their First Aid and CPR qualifications, as well as engaging in professional learning aligned to the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model to further strengthen our classroom practice.
Wednesday, 10 June is our Multicultural Day. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity within our school community. Through a range of performances and activities, students will explore and learn to appreciate cultures from around the world.
On the day, students will participate in a Kung Fu dance workshop and attend a shadow puppet performance, Journey to the West, alongside a variety of classroom-based cultural activities.
Students are encouraged to come dressed in traditional cultural attire to help celebrate and share the diversity that makes our community so special.
As part of our ongoing focus on student wellbeing and learning, we would like to remind families of the importance of ensuring children get adequate sleep each night.
For children aged 5 to 12 years, it is recommended that they get 9 to 11 hours of sleep per night. To support this, we encourage families to aim for the following bedtimes:
A consistent bedtime routine helps children feel secure, improves concentration and behaviour at school, and supports their physical and emotional development.
We understand that every family has unique routines, but we kindly ask that you prioritise sleep as part of your child’s daily schedule. If you need support establishing a bedtime routine, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
The infographic below includes some tips on how to prepare children for sleep.

We are now accepting enrolment applications for students beginning school in 2027. If you have a child of school age starting school next year, please contact our school office to receive more information. We are more than happy to help you with the application process or to book a school tour. If you know of any families who have children ready to start school next year, please encourage them to get in contact with us so we can share with them our wonderful Parkhill community and how they can become a part of it in 2027.
Kind regards,
Dale
