What’s been happening with Hands on Learning:
Spring has definitely sprung in Hands on Learning program.
The HoL crew have been lucky enough to attend a 3 week event at Platinum Institute in Delacombe. This event has been kindly organised by the Highland LLEN and Platinum Institute. This week all students passed their assessments and received their Construction Induction Cards (white cards). This will allow our students to safely enter and work on construction sites for work experience and for the rest of their lives if a trade is their chosen pathway.
After this assessment, students were back on the tools building wooden planters, having a go at bricklaying and plastering a wall. So, if any handy work needs doing around the house, you’ll know who to ask.
Next week is our final week and we will be on the tools all day. We will build a cubby house from scratch and there will also be some time on the crane, learning about safe use of harnesses and working at heights, nail guns and more brick laying. We should all sleep soundly next Wednesday night.
We also wanted to remind everyone that today is Daffodil Day, and our HoL student Harry has been busy harvesting his Daffodils for sale. Harry planted and tended these over a year ago in the HoL garden bed he constructed. In 2023 we donated approximately $50 to the Cancer Council of Victoria and this year we are aiming for $80. We have plenty of blooms and they are available at our office or canteen for $2 per stem. Every cent raised will go to the Cancer Council of Victoria. So, if you are popping in to sign a form or pick up a student, look out for Harry’s Daffodils.
