Cold weather at Bunyip Primary school

The grade 5/6 students seem to be a little forgetful with their jumpers at the moment, and are encouraged to bring them to school daily. Additionally, several students are stretching their tee shirts, pulling their knees into them to stay warm; some consideration around appropriate pants may be helpful. Please check in with your child regarding this, so everyone can be comfortable at school and ready to learn. Please also ensure that students are in uniform when at school. If this is a challenge, please reach out to your child's teacher. 

English

This semester, we are refocusing on the tools of writing and are reviewing all the components of a written piece that students need to master in order to have cohesive and dynamic writing. Students have been practicing the use of figurative language. They revested similes, metaphors and personifications and used them to add assist with the visualisation of their writing to their readers. In the following week students have been exploring paraphrasing of writing in readiness to create Information reports

Mathematics

In the last fortnight we have been looking at fractions and fractional thinking. Students have learnt to add fractions, convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, used tools such as number lines and bar models to represent fractions in different contexts.

Humanities - History

We have now looked at the circumstances that brought the 6 colonies together as a commonwealth through federation and have considered some of the historic documents that exists as artefact of this time.

Auslan

Students have continued to practise their interpretation of a short story ready to present to the grade 3/4 students. It's proving to be a bit harder than we thought, but everyone is really trying their best! 

Technology

Students have started looking at the design process and what ergonomic designs is about and considered end user needs. 

Student in Charge

This semester, all students will be given an opportunity to teach their peers something they are skilled in or have a strong understanding of. When it is your child's turn, they may request to bring certain items/tools/equipment to school. We appreciate the support from our families to allow exceptional mini lessons on exciting tops, such as music, craft, and sport.
