I was terrific to meet up with so many parents over the past two weeks, about their child's progress in Parent Teacher Chats. Thank you to those parents who met with us, to celebrate all of the students' achievements.

Students loved learning about how bees pollinate our food and that without bees we would not have the food we eat today.

How to help your child in their literacy journey:

Regularly talking and interacting with your child extends their language and listening skills and helps grow their confidence with language. Visiting people and places can also provide a world of new vocabulary. Discussion during outings can enrich your child’s understanding of the world. Outings might include going to the local farmers market, park, zoo, shopping centre, museums, libraries and art galleries.

Encourage your child to make up stories, such as telling a story about their favourite toy, another family member, a pet, a favourite fictional character from a book or television program, a famous person, different work professions, such as astronauts, fire fighters, nurses and teachers, an imaginary world with imaginary characters or an imaginary animal that can speak.

Literacy 📚📚

1/2 students have been exploring a range of poetic forms, including rhyming poems and haiku. They listened to and discussed poems, identifying rhythm, rhyme, imagery and the main idea, while exploring how poets use descriptive language and the five senses to create vivid pictures in the reader's mind. Students wrote and edited their own rhyming and haiku poems, applying their understanding of rhyme patterns, syllables, descriptive vocabulary, common and proper nouns, capital letters and punctuation.
