Years F - 2

Our F/1/2 class celebrated 100 Days of School last week, and what a fantastic day it was! Everyone looked incredible in their costumes, and a special thank you to the Year 3/4/5 students who joined in with our dress-up theme. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of reading, writing and maths activities, all centred around the number 100, making it a fun way to celebrate this exciting milestone.
In Maths, we have been exploring direction and location. Students have been learning about left and right, clockwise and anticlockwise, as well as quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns. They have also been using maps and positional language to describe locations and give directions to help someone navigate from one place to another.
In Literacy, our focus has been on adverbs of time, place and manner. We have also been enjoying the beautiful picture books Window, Circle and Mirror by Jeannie Baker. These unique texts, with very few words, have encouraged students to think deeply, make observations and develop their oral language and comprehension skills.
Students have also created artwork for the Coleraine Art Show. Using coloured paper and geometric shapes, they designed creative animal collages. The finished pieces look fantastic, and we are excited to see them displayed.
I would like to congratulate all students on their hard work and positive attitude towards learning. They continue to put in a wonderful effort each day, and it is great to see the progress they are making.
Next week, students will again have relief teachers on a couple of occasions. On Monday, I will be completing mandated literacy assessments with our Year 1 students, and on Thursday I will be attending a Literacy Conference in Ballarat. Mrs Steele and I also attended professional learning in Horsham this week, focused on improving literacy teaching and learning. These opportunities allow us to continue developing our practice and provide the best possible learning experiences for our students.
Have a wonderful weekend!
