Group 11

Group 11- Learning Through Our Community and Outdoor Experiences.

This term Group 11 have been busy exploring, learning and building connections through a range of engaging hands-on experiences. We have been placing a strong focus on developing our numeracy skills, particularly counting, recognising quantities and building an understanding of numbers through meaningful, play-based learning experiences. The children have had many opportunities to practise counting objects, matching quantities to numbers and exploring “how many?” through activities that are connected to their interests and everyday experiences.

Our numeracy learning has been incorporated throughout the day and across a range of engagement opportunities. We have been finding ways to practise counting and quantities through play, movement, sensory experiences and our outdoor learning. This has allowed the children to develop their numeracy skills in meaningful and enjoyable ways while building confidence in participating in learning experiences.

A particularly exciting part of our learning has been exploring our class community. We have been learning that our classroom is not only a place where we learn together, but also a community where we can care for and contribute to the world around us. One of the childrens' favourite experiences has been visiting the chickens! During our visits, the children have enjoyed observing the chickens, feeding them and learning how we can care for animals within our community.

Our chicken visits have also provided wonderful opportunities to connect our numeracy learning with real-life experiences. The children have practised counting the chickens, noticing how many chickens are present and using one-to-one counting as they feed them. They have also been developing their understanding of turn-taking, waiting for their turn and sharing the experience with their classmates. These meaningful experiences have supported the development of social skills, communication, numeracy and a sense of belonging within our class community.

The children have particularly enjoyed being outside and engaging in outdoor learning experiences. Outdoor learning provides opportunities for the children to explore using their senses, move their bodies, interact with their peers and investigate the natural environment. Whether we are visiting the chickens, exploring the outdoor spaces, collecting natural materials, counting objects or simply observing what is happening around us, the children have shown enthusiasm and curiosity.
