Book Week 2026
On Monday 24th August, our school was filled with the rhythm and harmony of stories as we celebrated Book Week with this year’s theme ‘Symphony of Stories’. Students embraced the joy of reading through creative costumes and special opportunities to connect with books and stories.
A highlight of the week was our annual Costume Parade, where students proudly showcased their imaginative costumes inspired by their favourite books and characters. Congratulations to our most creative costume winners:

Each of our winners will receive a prize at our whole school assembly at the end of the term with special thanks to Ms Murtagh for assisting with this part of the celebration and Ms Lee who curated a wonderful soundtrack for the parade.
We would also like to extend a big thank you to everyone who made a gold coin donation in support of Story Dogs. Thanks to your generosity, we raised an incredible $248.90!

Years 3–6 Live Performance
Our Years 3–6 students had the exciting opportunity to attend a live performance of Inked, presented by Meerkat Productions. The story follows Sid, a 12-year-old student who just wants to blend in, and an opera-singing octopus who needs help finding his way back to the ocean, 300 kilometres away. Together, they form an unlikely “frenemy” duo and embark on an unforgettable adventure. Throughout the story, students explored important themes of friendship, acceptance, teamwork and the power of helping others.
Students were also very excited to meet author Karen Wasson and illustrator Jake A. Minton who attended one session on the day and answered questions about the creation of Inked.
When asked how they developed their ideas for the story, Karen shared that many of her ideas come from her own life and experiences with children. Students were also fascinated to learn that creating the illustrations could take up to three years!
A Visit from Penny O’Loughlin
On Tuesday 25th August, we were delighted to welcome back Penny O’Loughlin, author of Winding Down, Bud and Buzz & Cartwheeling Sally and Jumping Jack Jim, who returned this year to visit our Foundation students.
Penny shared her heartwarming story, Bud and Buzz, which follows a shy flower and a busy bee as they discover friendship, growth and the magic of pollination. The story provided a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about the important connections within nature and the role pollinators play in our environment.
After the story, students took part in some fun pollination games outdoors, followed by a creative craft activity. It was a wonderful morning of learning and discovery, and the students thoroughly enjoyed bringing the story to life!
Upcoming Foundation–Year 2 Live Performance
To continue our Book Week celebrations, Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students will have the opportunity to attend a live performance of the picture book Dear Broccoli by Jo Dabrowski, presented by Meerkat Productions, on Thursday 3 September.
We look forward to another wonderful opportunity for our younger students to celebrate books, stories and the joy of reading.
