Principal Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

This term it has been so wonderful to see everything that makes us amazing on full show: events that celebrate our students, friendships with connection at their core, students trying their best no matter how hard, and so many opportunities to showcase our community.

Our final day this term is Friday 18th September and students will finish at 1.30pm, at which point staff will get together to celebrate their hard work, and say a few goodbyes to retiring staff. A gentle reminder that we all return on Monday 5th October.

As the parent of a Year 12 student currently studying for their own VCE examinations, I will be spending time this end of term break encouraging them to revise and get ready for the VCE examinations in Term 4. Please believe me when I tell you that being a teacher doesn’t make that job any easier! If I was going to offer any advice it would: ditch devices and distractions, create a revision timetable (and stick to it!), practise, practise, practise your exam question practice, critically reflect where and how marks are awarded, and use feedback provided by subject teachers to focus on the content that was probably always challenging, and so deserves a bit more of your time. 

 A big thank you to Mordialloc College staff who are coming in over the break to support students with additional revision classes; that information is shared with both them and you via Compass.

It won’t be all revision in my house, and I really do hope that over the end of term break, you get to join me in spending time resting with your favourite people 

Mordi Idol! 

What an absolute delight to be a part of this iconic Mordialloc College event again! Mordi Idol: With 12 acts to get through in one 75-minutes session, our students rose to the occasion, with the whole school settling down quickly to make the most of us coming together to watch singing, instrumental music and dancing. Students from all year groups were cheered on as they enjoyed performing in front of their peers. The event was capped off with a Staff Dance; we had some moves!

We have had such a roll with our bands over the last few years that I was concerned we could not possibly continue to be so lucky but I should not have been worried, our Year 7 band was extraordinary, and took first prize. 

I am so grateful for the students, and our Arts staff for continuing to bring the wider school community together to celebrate our students. We have our Arts Show in Term 4, something else to look forward to from our ArtsTech students and staff.

Instrumental Showcase. 

On 8th and 9th September, we  celebrated our Instrumental Music Showcase across two nights, showcasing Brass, Woodwind and Percussion, Vocal, Piano and Guitar. I am no musician but I know amazing work when I hear it! Students from Year 7 to Year 12 played individual pieces in front of their families, and their peers, they were an absolute credit to the college. 

Whilst this will be the last Mordialloc College event for our Year 12 students, it was a fabulous way for them to go out with a bang. A credit to our dynamic music team - Demis Danoudis Coordinator (and teacher of guitar, piano, and voice), Nigel Maas (woodwind), Damien Maughan (brass), Jason Liacos (guitar), Adrian De Luca (drums), and Tahlia Makunde (voice) and I thank them for their ongoing support of our students, and for providing another opportunity for our community to come together..

Year 7: Making The World A Better Place

A huge thank you to Junior School students and staff yet again going out in the community to litter pick, and put right a few wrongs.

Whilst I am grateful that our students are so enthusiastic about Keeping Australia Beautiful, this would be a lot easier if so much plastic wasn’t coming into the college via snack and lunch boxes. If you aren’t noticing this waste coming back inside your child’s lunch-box, there is every chance it is contributing to the litter in our community that we have to address.

Next term, please will you consider ways to keep Mordialloc beautiful by having high expectations about waste coming home, or even going Nude Food.

Countdown: Year 12 

As we move towards our Year 12 students coming towards the end of their Mordialloc College journey, we have had a series of events to not only prepare them for examinations, but to also celebrate their educational journey. 

To round out Term 3, our VCE VM & VCE students dressed as their ‘future selves’, and as their primary school selves, a great day was had by all!

In this final week of Term 3, it really has been back to business: our VCE students who have been hard at work with Year 12 Practice Examinations, whilst our VCE VM students have been completing their applied learning projects, saying their final goodbyes and developing their portfolio presentations ahead of their semester interviews week 1 of Term 4.

I really do hope you have a great end of term; look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
