Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to Term 2! I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful family break.

The Boarding Team will be on duty from 6:30am Monday 20 April to settle everyone back in for the term. Please ensure your child is back in-house by 4:00pm for ease of settling in, and returns with one only suitcase. Airport collections will continue to very late on Monday evening.

We have had a busy holiday break with Christian Brothers College Adelaide once again hiring our facility throughout the break for the annual EREA football competition held at Nudgee College. Maintenance has attended to any required repairs, and our courtyard is now alive with beautiful lighting and our boys’ have their own kitchenette!

A message from Hughina:

This will be my sixth year working in boarding and I am very excited to be joining the Clayfield College Boarding family.  I have previously worked at Fairholme College in Toowoomba and Blackheath & Thornburgh College in Charters Towers.

I love working in boarding because I love the relationships I build with the students, staff and parents. It feels like one big family.

My favourite food is GYG with a Pepsi Max and in my spare time I will be found at Pilates, playing the Sims or Roblox, and going to the gym.  My hobbies include swimming, Pilates, going to watch the Dolphins win at Suncorp and going on river walks.

Hughina will work Sunday to Thursday 2:30pm to 10:30pm and can be contacted at htindall@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

A message from Saxon:

I am very pleased to introduce myself as the new Boarding Co-ordinator (Boys) at Clayfield College. By day I work as a lawyer, but some of the most meaningful work I’ve done has always been alongside young people in residential communities.

I studied law and international relations at Bond University, where I also had the privilege of being Dean of one of the residential colleges. It was a lively, diverse community of around 230 students from Australia and overseas, and that experience really shaped my interest in student life, leadership, and the small moments that make a big difference to how young people feel at school and at home. I’ve also spent time studying in Japan, India, and the United States, so I understand how hard it can be to be away from home, and just how much confidence and perspective can come from being pushed a little outside your comfort zone.

Over the years I’ve been fortunate to work in and around education in different ways, including with national organisations focused on student wellbeing, inclusion, and respectful relationships. What has stayed constant, though, is my belief that schools, and boarding in particular, play a powerful role in helping boys grow into good men.

I’ve already greatly enjoyed getting to know the boys in boarding and spending time with them around the College.

I’m looking forward to working closely with them and with their families to support their development into sincere, kind, and grounded young men, who are comfortable with who they are and ready to contribute positively to the world, wherever their strengths may lead them.

Saxon will work Monday to Thursday 7:00pm to 10:00pm and can be contacted at smcgregor@clayfield.qld.edu.au.
