Brain Olympia
On Tuesday the 25th August 2026, 24 St Joseph's students travelled to Inverell for the annual Brain Olympia competition. Three teams participated:-
- Red - Ayla, Phoebe, Charlie, Ellie, Alec, Sam, Claire, and Teal.
- Green - Charlotte, Tilly G, Caitlin, Ruby, Isobel, Xavier, Cotton and Theodore
- Yellow - Sophie P, Lucy VDW, Ivy, Leo, Lylah, Harley, Lucy N and Halle
It was an extremely successful day with our 3 teams battling it out for first place against 4 other Holy Trinity teams. Throughout the day our students racked their brains and worked well with their team members. The students answered questions in a variety of areas including english, science, current affairs, HSIE / geography and famous people and places! We also had to solve intense maths problems!
Ellie, Tilly G and Ivy also thrived in their outstanding public speaking performance about AI being a positive or negative thing for our future!
Lastly, all teams succeeded in presenting humorous, fun filled and entertaining drama performances that had to involve the line ‘whatever you do, don’t press the red button!’
At the end of the day the jaw dropping results were announced. Team Red ended on a very high note tying first with a Holy Trinity team with a total of 113 out of a possible 139 points. We are very proud to say that Team Red will be making their way to the finals in Tamworth on the 15th September to represent our school.
Team Yellow placed third only one point behind the two teams who came equal first.
Our third Joey's team, Team Green, gave an incredible effort but didn’t quite manage to make the top three. Overall, everyone gave their best effort and made every question count.
Thank you to all the organisers, including Holy Trinity staff; Mrs Gaias for running the event with the help of Mrs William keeping track of the scores. Thank you to our two teachers Mrs Little and Mr McAllister for looking after us on the day and extra special thank you to Mrs Little for her continuous positivity and willingness to train us and prepare us for the experience!
