Regional Cross Country

Last Friday, three students proudly represented Bridgewater Primary School and the Loddon Calder District Sport Cluster at the regional cross country event. All three students put in an outstanding effort and achieved excellent results against strong competition from across Central Victoria.

Odin placed 3rd in the 8-Year-Old Boys 2km race.
Marley placed 21st in the 11-Year-Old Girls 3km race.
Emily placed 22nd in the 11-Year-Old Girls 3km race.

This event is extremely challenging, with a large number of students competing from schools across the region. These results are a true testament to the students’ resilience, determination, and effort.

Congratulations to all three students on their fantastic achievements!

Reports and Parent Teacher Conferences

Following recent discussions between the Department of Education and the Australian Education Union (AEU), all industrial action has now been suspended.

Earlier this term, industrial action included a ban on written comments for student reports. As a result, some schools may not be able to include full written comments in Semester 1 reports this year.

Student reports will still provide important information about student achievement and progress against the Victorian Curriculum F–10.

We will continue to provide Semester 1 reports as scheduled. While some reports may not include detailed written comments, we look forward to discussing your child’s learning and progress further during parent-teacher interviews in the last week of term.

Interviews will be from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Monday 22nd June and Tuesday 23rd June.

Booking forms for interviews will be sent home next week.

Curriculum Day

On our upcoming Curriculum Day, staff will participate in professional learning focused on student wellbeing, engagement, and positive behaviour.

The day will include training on recognising and supporting students affected by family violence, practical strategies for incorporating physical activity and movement into classroom learning, and further development of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.

Staff will work together to strengthen behaviour expectations, plan lessons that promote positive school culture, and review our student reward system to ensure a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.

Victorian Principals Conference

On Thursday and Friday, I attended the Victorian Principals Conference, joining school leaders from across the state to learn, collaborate and share ideas.

Key takeaways included:

Strengthening evidence-informed teaching practices, including explicit instruction and curriculum planning.
Exploring the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence in education.
Supporting student wellbeing and responding to the changing role of schools.

Learning from innovative schools and connecting with colleagues across Victoria.

The conference provided valuable insights that will help inform our ongoing work at Bridgewater Primary School as we continue to improve outcomes for all students.
