Literacy
In Literacy, the Prep students have been continuing to develop their phonics, reading and writing skills. The students have learnt to recognise and read the sounds and letters ‘k’, ‘e’, ‘r’, and ‘u’. They are very excited to be adding the letters and sounds of ‘b’, ‘h’ and ‘l’ to their understanding next week. Using these words, they will also practise blending sounds to read and spell words such as ‘mum’, ‘kid’, ‘get’, ‘rig’, ‘bag’, ‘hen’, and ‘lip’.
Our Grade 1/2's students have been continuing to build their phonics and reading skills by learning the alternative sound and letter ‘y’ and reading and spelling words such as ‘spy’, ‘shy’, ‘fly’, ‘my’ and ‘cry’. Following on from this they have also been exploring the long /i/ sound represented by ‘i_e’ and ‘igh’. They will practise reading and spelling words including ‘bike’, ‘white’, ‘smile’, ‘time’, ‘nine’, ‘ripe’, ‘flight’, ‘drive’, ‘highway’ and ‘bedtime’.
Maths
In maths this fortnight, we have finished up our Patterns unit and have moved on to Location and Position. They learnt to describe where objects and people were using positional language such as above, below, next to, behind and between, as well as ordinal numbers including first, second and third. Students also investigated the time of day that events occurred and practised sequencing events in the correct order. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they built an understanding of daily routines, order and direction in familiar contexts.
Art
We are exploring the techniques of acrylic paint, specifically techniques such as scgraffito, dots, wet on wet and splatter. Students have studied Eric Carle's work of The Tiny Seed and have created a beautiful art display of flowers using the scgraffito technique. Our art room is looking amazing!
