Book Blokes: Time to Team Up with Dad!

For the past two weeks, our Senior Library has been running Book Blokes, a reading session that’s all about inspiring our Year 7-9 readers with recommendations from the Blokes of Trinity College. We've looked at the classics, autobiographies, a great selection of crime novels and some old favourites, and now, we’re bringing the challenge home!

Here’s the Deal:

Studies show us that young men don't have as many options as their female counterparts when it comes to reading role models. In fact, many younger males think of reading as an inherently female pursuit. Recent research from Australia Reads has found that young men are more likely to lose interest in reading and prioritise other leisure activities as they reach adulthood. On the other hand, Boys who see their fathers, coaches, or male teachers reading are more likely to view reading as socially acceptable and develop the habit themselves.

Now that we've taken inspiration from teachers and support staff at TC, we’re calling on all sons to rope Dad into reading with you - just 15 minutes, three times a week. That’s it. No essays, no pressure, just chill time with a good book and your old man. Why? Because reading together isn’t just about books. It’s about laughs, chats, and maybe even a few epic debates over whether or not it really is worth reading Dustin Martin's 'Autobiography'. It’s a chance to hang out, unplug, and do something different...together.

So, grab a book, grab your Dad (or any awesome bloke in your life), and start your own Book Blokes tradition at home. Books, banter and bonding, it almost makes reading sound like a team sport.
