Imperium Shines at Wakakirri

With Powerful Storytelling Performance

On Tuesday, 19 August Imperium proudly took part in the annual Wakakirri Performing Arts Festival, presenting a moving piece inspired by the Blue Tree Project. Their performance explored themes of mental health, stigma, and kindness — using the power of dance and storytelling to spark conversation and inspire change.

Wakakirri Ambassador Katherine John praised the piece, describing it as:

“A performance that challenged stigma and started a conversation — a true example of how the arts can change hearts and minds. Boys expressing emotion on stage is powerful and brave, and you did it with pride.”

She went on to commend the choreography, transitions, and powerful symbolism, highlighting the strong sense of teamwork and unity displayed on stage:

“Many of you were new to dance but your teamwork and trust in each other were evident — this wasn’t just a performance, it was a shared journey. You stood together on stage as more than dancers — as role models. What you created will stay with your audience long after the lights go down.”

The performance concluded with a striking visual — dancers revealing “Choose Kind” shirts — a simple yet powerful reminder of the message at the heart of their work.
