Year 8 Science - The Digestive System

Year 8 students have been learning about the human digestive system and how the body breaks down food with their teacher Miss Revell. As part of this unit, students completed a hands-on practical to model the digestive process.

Using banana, biscuits and oats, students worked through each stage of digestion by physically breaking down and mixing the food. This allowed them to simulate how food is processed in the body and understand what happens as nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine. The final stage demonstrated what remains as waste after digestion - which students agreed was a little bit gross!

This practical helped students connect theory to real-life processes, reinforcing the roles of key organs and the importance of a balanced diet. Despite reactions students were highly engaged and developed a strong understanding of the digestive system functions.
