HPV and Pushcart team news.

THANK YOU

On behalf of everyone, we want to give thanks to our staff, our sponsors, our wider school community and our parents who have worked alongside us for the past 12 months to make this team the best it can be. From trailer transport, student drop off and pickups, travelling across Melbourne for support events and everything in between. Your contributions have meant everything to our students and we would not be here without your support.

RESULTS

Congratulations to team Whiplash and Adrenaline who came home in 16th and 21st position overall. To hold our position in just our second outing is a credit to all of our students hard work. Up against an extended field, and big schools running up to 4 teams in an incredible effort. An extra big congratulations to Whiplash who fell just 0.3 points away from winning the Design Construction category, finishing 3rd overall.

MARYBOROUGH 2023

HPV EVENT

After 12 months of hard work and dedication from our team we finally arrived at our grand finale. Both teams were put through their paces academically as they showcased their technical knowledge and storytelling skills on Wednesday morning. It was wonderful to see how all of our students rose to the occasion and worked so well together off track.

After a nervous afternoon it was time to go racing which was what we had all been waiting for, a few technical issues mid afternoon on Adrenaline saw both Mr.Pocock and Jeb Bickerdike in pitlane earlier than expected working adjustments to our break system, wheel bearings and bodywork. The 2hr session flew past and Cooper Boyd put us right at the pointy end of the grid with a 2:12 lap time, locking away 12th position.

Thursday morning couldn't come fast enough and the flag dropped. A lightning (and slightly illegal) start saw us in 1st place after lap 1 and hold 2nd position for the following 5 laps, an unexpected flat hurt us badly, in the time it took for our changeover, we had dropped to 36th position and we were now playing catchup. It was a monumental 28 lap, 31 and 25 lap stint from Koby, Darci and Cooper again who saved the afternoon as all riders played their role completing their required sessions. After 9 hours, we had finished the day in 11th.

5.00am Friday and we were prepping trikes for the run home, a faultless first opening 2 hours had us charging towards the front again, holding down 9th position by 8am and closing the field. However a disasterous changeover saw our steering rack break and after 18 minutes repairing, we had fallen, but only to 13th. The mid morning went our way once again, but a huge collision involving Avoca hurt us again.

We dusted ourselves off and crossed the line in 12th place overall for team Adrenaline, team Whiplash cruising home in 48th place.

PUSHCARTS EVENT

2023 saw a brand new batch of students excited to take on the pushcart challenge at Energy Breakthrough 2023. During the year the students undertook numerous tryouts, trainings and cart-building sessions to prepare themselves for the big event.

Wednesday morning saw us complete both the Design and Construction aspect of the event which required the students to disassemble and reassemble their carts in front of a panel of judges. They were then required to answer various questions about the cart and how it works. Both teams did a great job of breaking down their roles as a team and how their carts operate.

Next was the Obstacle course trial which saw the teams competing against other schools in a side-by-side race around various obstacles such as barriers and barrels, gaining points if any contact was made. Unfortunately, the Swoopers team had some steering issues with their cart which affected their time and caused some crashes into the obstacles.

Thursday signaled the start of an intense day of competition with the Endurance and Sprint trials being held.  Both teams worked incredibly hard to be the fastest they could and their training was reflected in their efforts.

We are very excited about next year's event as we will be coming back bigger and better!
