Wellbeing at CSPS

At CSPS, student wellbeing continues to be a key priority, and we have had such a busy and exciting Term 3!
On International Friendship Day, 30 July, students took part in a range of activities and enjoyed books that highlighted the importance of friendship and being a good friend to others.
Our Year 6 Art Leaders also ran a fun Marigold Making activity at lunchtime. The Marigold Theory of Friendship encourages us to be a friend who helps others grow. Just as marigold flowers can help support the health of plants growing around them, a marigold friend is kind, caring and encouraging. They cheer you on, help you when you need it, and make others feel happy, safe and included.
Students not only created their own marigolds but also recorded the names of their ‘marigold friends’ on leaves, which were brought together to create a beautiful friendship display.
Respectful Relationships Week
Our annual Respectful Relationships Week focused on the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action theme, ‘Small Acts, Big Impact’. Students explored how small actions, such as including someone, speaking up or showing kindness, can make a big difference.
During daily Circle Time, students reflected on how our words and actions can impact others and learnt that we don't have to do something big to make a positive difference in someone else's day or life.
As is customary during our annual Respectful Relationships Week, every student and teacher across the school also completed daily entries in a Gratitude Journal. Practising gratitude regularly has been linked to a range of benefits for mental health and wellbeing, including increased positive emotions and greater appreciation of the people and experiences around us.
Students enjoyed working on their Gratitude Journals.
Bullying No Way School of Fish Activity promoting inclusion and belonging.
Cybersafety Project Incursion
At CSPS, we use the Cybersafety Project resources to deliver regular lessons in all year levels about digital behaviour and digital safety. One of our students’ favourite presenters is Sam and on Monday, our junior students were beyond excited to meet Sam in person!! Sam and his co-presenter, Jack, came to talk to our Year 1-3 students about staying safe online and how to be kind and respectful in the internet universe.
The Cybersafety Project complements the Respectful Relationships program, ensuring students have the skills and knowledge to stand up for what is right in the virtual world as well as IRL (in real life). Most parents have little idea about what happens in their child’s online space and the Cybersafety Project helps everyone to navigate this complicated world.
As we enter the holidays, please check in with your children about what games they are playing online, what video channels they are watching, and most importantly, how much screen-free time they are getting each day. It’s all about balance and as parents, we need to help our kids and ourselves avoid getting hooked!
RUOK? Day
Today we celebrated RUOK? Day. Leading up to the day, JSC members visited classrooms to share important information about RUOK? Day and encouraged students to get involved in our Crazy Hair Day.
The gold coin donations collected today, will be donated to Beyond Blue. Thank you to everyone who supported this important initiative and helped us promote the message that asking, “Are you OK?” can make a meaningful difference.
