Sheep

The Perth Royal Show is firmly in Mr Adams' sights, with preparations well underway. Students are currently developing their wool judging skills and preparing sheep for exhibition as they get ready for this year's show.

In addition, Mr Adams is working closely with students as they prepare for the Farm Skills Challenge, held at the Royal Show two days before the official opening. This competition gives students an opportunity to develop and showcase their skills and teamwork in a competitive environment.

Horticulture

Our Year 10 students made a huge effort harvesting the College's Mystic mandarins, picking 11 bins of fruit weighing about 4.5 tonnes. The mandarins will now be transported to a local packing house, where they will be packed and prepared for sale through the Perth markets.

After the harvest, students observed the washing, waxing, and grading equipment in operation, gaining insight into the post-harvest processes involved in preparing produce for market.

Beef

World Wide Sires Australia attended the College this week, with Dale Edwards, Beef Sales Manager, delivering a highly informative presentation to staff and students. The visit highlighted the importance of genetics and the breeding decisions that play a role in modern beef and dairy production. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the traits and characteristics that are considered when selecting bulls and semen to achieve specific goals.

Dairy

Mr Millichamp and Mr Bean attended the Dairy Discovery event in Bunbury this week with a group of students, giving them the opportunity to engage directly with the dairy industry and broaden their understanding of current industry practices.

The day was highly informative and enabled students to connect with industry representatives and hear firsthand about career pathways in the industry.
