Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Mary Help of Christians: Our Advocate and Protector: Patron Saint of Australia.

In the vast tapestry of Marian devotion within the Catholic Church, Mary Help of Christians occupies a cherished place, offering solace, guidance, and protection to countless faithful souls throughout history.

The title "Mary Help of Christians" traces its roots to a pivotal moment in European history. In the early 16th century, as Christian Europe faced the threat of invasion by Ottoman forces, Pope Pius V called upon the faithful to pray the Rosary for the defence of Christendom. On October 7, 1571, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the decisive Battle of Lepanto took place, resulting in a stunning victory for the Christian fleet against overwhelming odds. Pope Pius attributed this victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Victory, who henceforth came to be known as Mary Help of Christians.

Since that historic event, devotion to Mary Help of Christians has spread far and wide, particularly in times of crisis and conflict. The faithful have turned to her as a source of strength, courage, and protection, trusting in her maternal intercession to aid them in their struggles. At the heart of this devotion lies a profound truth: Mary is not only the Mother of God but also our loving mother, ever ready to come to our aid in times of need. Just as she stood by her Son on the road to Calvary, she stands by us in our own trials and tribulations, offering us her prayers and consolation.

As our advocate and protector, Mary Help of Christians reminds us of the power of prayer and the importance of entrusting ourselves to her care. In times of danger, uncertainty, and adversity, we can turn to her with confidence, knowing that she will never abandon us.

Let us, therefore, invoke the aid of Mary Help of Christians in all our needs, both spiritual and temporal, trusting that she will always intercede for us before the throne of her Son.

May her gentle presence guide us, her prayers sustain us, and her love protect us now and always.
Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us!

Peace and best wishes

Leonie Burfield
