Green Team News

The Green Team has had a busy start to the term as we prepared for our upcoming assembly! The students were excited to share all the wonderful things they have been working on in Brendan’s Garden this year. Everyone played an important role in the presentation and I felt incredibly proud as the students spoke clearly and confidently about their achievements.

Some students proudly showcased the ribbons we won at the Red Hill Show, while others held up one of our very own Brendan’s Garden pumpkins. They all did a fantastic job sharing their experiences and celebrating the team’s hard work. The Green Team Quiz was also lots of fun and congratulations to Mrs Turner for winning the delicious pumpkin!

Last Wednesday, some very excited Foundation students visited Brendan’s Garden with Mrs Coggin and enjoyed picking lots of scrumptious snow peas. It was wonderful to see that the herbs planted by Foundation C are growing so well, too.

There is plenty happening in the garden, with beetroot and broad beans now ready to harvest. We look forward to collecting these at the end of the week. We will also be planting a selection of summer vegetables, with hopes of growing some fantastic produce to enter in next year’s Red Hill Show.

It’s wonderful to see our garden thriving and our students continuing to learn, grow and enjoy the rewards of their hard work.

STEM - Foundation

In Term Three the Foundation students are using the design process to create a bridge that can hold 100 washers. We  started out looking at different bridge types and discussing their features.  We then made some bridges and tested them by adding washes to them till they gave way.  The students then drew the bridges in their books and made notes about what happened to the bridges and the number of washes it could hold. Below are some images of the Foundation students testing the different bridges they have made.

Year 1/2's

In Term Three the Year 1/2 students are using the design process to create a paper plane that can fly 23 metres. We  started out by making a simple plane and testing it.  We then drew what the planes looked like and noted what happened when we flew it and the distance it went.  Mr Barry demonstrated some modifications we could make and modelled what would happen when we made each one.  We then had the opportunity to try them on our plane to see if the changes made it fly further or not. We then made another plane - The Dart. This plane flew a lot further than the first basic one. We tried out some of the modifications we did before. We then drew the plane and wrote down what happened when we flew it and the distance it went.  Below are some images of the Year 1/2 students testing the paper planes they have made.
