A Massive Book Fair Thank You!
A huge thank you to all our wonderful families, students, and especially our amazing grandparents who supported the annual Scholastic Book Fair. Seeing so many excited readers browsing the shelves and sharing a love of stories was an absolute joy. Your enthusiasm and support throughout the week made the whole event a roaring success.
We’re thrilled to announce that this was officially our most successful Book Fair ever! Thanks to your incredible generosity, our school earned a wonderful credit with Scholastic. We’ll be putting this straight to good use, stocking our shelves with exciting new fiction, popular series, and valuable teaching resources for everyone to enjoy. Thank you once again for helping our library grow!
This Week's Reads
K–6 students have continued reading through the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year shortlist. K–2 had a fun time reading My Nonno Loves... by Adelle and Claudia Frittitta, which was a great choice to coincide with Grandparents Day. They loved sharing all the wonderful things they do with their Poppy, Grandad, Pa, Opa and Fardy! We also read Frogs Are Our Friends by Toni D’Alia and Madeline White, and students had fun drawing all the things you need to make a frog-friendly garden.
Years 3–6 have been enjoying the Picture Book and Younger Readers categories. We read the stunning Dawn by Marc Martin, taking inspiration from his vivid illustration style, alongside I Once Was a Giant by Zeno Sworder. In both of these books, students have had to ‘read the pictures’, discovering how much of the story is told through artwork rather than just words.
Meanwhile, Stage 3 also enjoyed an extract from Spirit of the Crocodile by Aaron Fa’aoso & Michelle Scott Tucker and Lyn White, which follows a group of young Tiwi friends growing up on Saibai Island at the very top of Australia. The story sparked thoughtful conversations about the journey of growing up while facing the real-world challenges of rising sea levels and global warming on island communities. It was fantastic to see our senior students engage so deeply with such an important Australian story.
SORA eBooks of the Week: World Elephant Day
Get ready to stomp into reading this week as we celebrate World Elephant Day! These gentle giants are taking over SORA, and they have gathered a great bunch of reads about elephants for our students to enjoy.

Meet the Readers
Meet this week’s readers, Liam and Harvey, who picked up two great chapter books. Harvey went for a mystery, while Liam chose a historical fiction adventure. It’s always good to see students exploring different genres and discovering exciting new stories!

- The Premier’s Reading Challenge continues! Congratulations to Ronny and Matilda for returning their completed reading log.
- The K–11 Book Week Dress Up Parade is fast approaching! Join us on Wednesday, 26th of August at 12:15 pm in the Secondary Quadrangle to cheer on our wonderful book characters. Families are warmly invited to come along and join in the fun. Plus, every student who dresses up will automatically go into the draw to win some fantastic prizes!
