Year 11 Legal Studies Court Excursion

On Wednesday 10th June, our Year 11 Legal Studies class had the valuable opportunity to visit the Parramatta Local and District Courts to gain firsthand insight into the Australian legal system.

We began the day in the District Court, where we met Judge Jones. He gave us a very insightful overview of criminal court proceedings and generously took the time to answer our questions. We were also able to sit in on part of his ongoing trial, which allowed us to see the court process in action.

After this, we made our way over to the Local Court. There, we were able to sit in on several hearings and gained a deeper understanding of how cases are managed at this level. We also had the privilege of speaking with Judge Aguirre and Mr Wilcox, who both shared great insights into court jurisdictions and the types of matters heard by different courts.

Overall, we had both a super engaging and educational day, all gaining a better understanding of how the legal system operates in practice. We are also so thankful to Mrs Wade and Mr Forsyth who accompanied us and made this great day possible!
