Student Wellbeing

School Nurse - Mrs Jasper
We have been lucky enough to have Mrs Donna Jasper join us for the past two weeks talking to the students in small groups. Her focus for the Year 12 students was on Healthy Sex which covered the topics of consent and respectful relationships.
Her focus for the Year 11 students was about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as well as all the different types of contraception available.
We wish to thank Mrs Jasper for these extremely informative sessions.
Wellbeing Lessons
In Year 11 classes we have looked at Respecting Difference - embracing diversity in all its forms and the Psychology of Bullies - understanding why people bully others in wellbeing lessons.
Year 12 lessons consisted of Sex and Substances - How substances can lead to risky sexual behaviour and drugs - investigation connections between drug use and mental health.
Career Lessons
The Year 12s were lucky enough to have Mrs Berbari come into our lesson with the students WACE tracker. During the lesson, Mrs Berbari gave a detailed explanation of how to read it as well as what is required for students to achieve their W.A.C.E. (Western Australian Certificate of Education).
I am pleased to announce at the end of this term we have our first guest speaker to join our career lessons. Jenny Blewer from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA will be joining us as part of Apprenticeship Support Australia. In this lesson she will be assisting students in applying for apprenticeships.
P.A.R.T.Y. Excursion
This Friday 27 February we will have our first group of Year 11 students attend the P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) excursion to Midland St John of God Hospital. This is a one-day injury awareness and prevention program. It is a vital component of the growing community effort to reduce death and injury in alcohol, drug and risk-related crashes and incidents. The other Year 11 student groups will be going in Term 3 and Term 4.
