Our Father in Heaven,
Look over and bless St. Augustine’s while we are working and playing.
Help us to respect and care for each other as you taught us to.
Give us the opportunity to do our best for you each day.
We look forward to being able to share our lives with our friends and families.
Keep us safe and give us the courage to be
people who want to know you more.
Amen.

Lent is a special and important time in the Church year. It is the forty days when we prepare our hearts for the great joy of Easter. During this season, we walk with Jesus on His journey towards the cross and remember how much He loves us.
In the Gospels, we hear how Jesus spent forty days in the desert, praying and growing closer to His Father. Lent invites us to do the same in our own way. As a Catholic school community, we are encouraged to focus on three simple but powerful actions: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
Prayer helps us to make time for God each day. In our busy lives—filled with learning, work, clubs, and family commitments—Lent reminds us to pause and speak to God, and to listen to Him too. Whether it is through class liturgies, quiet moments in the classroom, or praying together at home, each small prayer brings us closer to Jesus.
Fasting is not just about giving up sweets or treats (though many of us bravely try!). It is about making space in our hearts. When we choose to go without something, we remember those who do not have enough and we learn self-control and gratitude.
Almsgiving means giving to others, especially those in need. Across Australia, many schools support the wonderful work of Catholic Missions through Project Compassion during Lent. By raising funds and awareness, our pupils learn that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others around the world.
Lent is not meant to be gloomy or sad. It is a hopeful season. It is about trying again, saying sorry, forgiving others, and growing in love. Each day is a new opportunity to be a little kinder, a little more patient, and a little more like Jesus.
As we continue our Lenten journey together, may our school be filled with prayerful hearts, generous hands, and joyful hope as we look forward to celebrating the risen Lord at Easter.
