Digital Well-Being: Staying Connected Safely
Dear Families,
At Berwick Chase Primary School, we pride ourselves on strong partnerships with our families. Clear communication and timely problem resolution are central to that partnership.
I will openly admit that I am something of a digital dinosaur. Beyond the occasional text message or family group chat, social media is not my natural habitat. Recently, however, a few friends and staff forwarded me a screenshot from the Berwick Chase Facebook group. A parent had understandably raised concern about what appeared to be an invoice for $750. In reality, the communication was advising the family of a $750 credit available to support their child.
It was an easy mistake to make. Written communication—particularly when viewed out of context—can sometimes be interpreted in ways that were never intended. This situation provided a timely reminder of something important: when in doubt, please contact us directly.
Our office team is approachable, knowledgeable and genuinely committed to helping families. A quick phone call, email or visit to the office will always provide you with accurate information. While online forums can be helpful spaces for connection, they can also become places where well-meaning community members offer their best guess. When it comes to your child’s education or finances, you deserve certainty—not speculation.
We value transparency and are always willing to clarify, explain or resolve any matter. Strong schools are built on respectful, direct communication. Thank you to those who reached out and to the parent who raised the question—these conversations help us continually improve how we communicate.
On another note, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible campers and the adults who make these experiences possible. Each year, our dedicated Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 teachers, along with our outstanding education support staff and generous parent volunteers, commit significant time and energy to ensure our camp programs can proceed.
These wonderful humans step away from their own families so that our students can experience adventure, challenge and growth beyond the school gates. Camp provides a powerful opportunity for students to build resilience, strengthen friendships, take on new challenges and learn to compromise and collaborate within a group setting. These are formative experiences that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.
Our camp program is a tremendous undertaking that relies on teamwork, detailed planning and a shared commitment to student wellbeing and growth. To everyone involved in organising and running these experiences—thank you. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.
We now look forward to our Year Three students heading off on their camp adventure. I have no doubt they will represent our school with pride and enthusiasm.
As always, if you have questions, please reach out. We are here to help.
Warm regards,
Christ Short
Principal
