Catholic Identity
As we enter the second week of Advent, we reflect on the theme of Peace. This week, we light the second purple candle on the Advent wreath, often called the "Bethlehem Candle," symbolising the peace that Jesus brings into our world and our hearts.
Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation. It reminds us to slow down, pray, and reflect on the coming of Christ at Christmas. This week, let us all strive to bring peace into our lives by showing kindness, patience, and understanding to one another, especially during this busy season.
Here are some ways to observe the second week of Advent together as a family:
- Prayer: Spend time each evening around your family Advent wreath, praying for peace in your home, community, and the world.
- Acts of Kindness: Encourage your children to perform small acts of kindness, such as helping a neighbour or writing a card to someone in need of encouragement.
- Service: Participate in a charitable activity as a family, such as donating food or clothing, or a toy to our school drive.

St Mary’s Parish - Celebrating 150 Years
Next year St Mary’s parish and school will celebrate and acknowledge 150 years of being the catholic church and community in the Echuca / Moama area. The many teams at the parish are well underway for preparing many celebrations and opportunities to celebrate those who have contributed to its rich history. St Mary’s school will support and be an active part of many of the celebrations and we encourage families to take part a long the way.
To mark the anniversary, St Mary’s parish has composed a 2025 calendar which are now on sale in our school office. A 2025 calendar is $10 and all proceeds go back to the parish. Families and members of our community can purchase a calendar by visiting the office or placing $10 in an envelope and sending it in with your child. Please support if you can.
