Literacy & Numeracy Intervention Update

Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program at Wollert Primary School
This program provides schools like ours with funding for intervention staff to work with small groups of students, giving them explicit and targeted support in literacy and numeracy. This is in recognition of the importance of early intervention to support students to build foundational skills of literacy and numeracy.
The programs are taught using Explicit Direct Instruction, a highly structured, research-based teaching method focused on mastering new concepts. Each session is planned by a Learning Specialist who designs the documented sequence of lessons to support the specific learning needs of participating students. These intervention lessons align with our whole school approach to teaching and learning, incorporating evidence based practices and catering for every child.
Who Can Participate?
Assessment data is used to identify which students, from Year 1 to Year 6, are selected to participate in the intervention program each term. If your child is eligible for the program, we will contact you directly to inform you.
Each intervention program runs for one term with a focus on either literacy or numeracy. Your child may be selected for one of these per term and will be a participant for a maximum of two terms per year.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning or their involvement in the Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program, please contact your child’s teacher or Lauren Clark, our Learning Specialist overseeing this program.
