Home Reading

Dear ANPS Community,

It has been a fantastic start to Term 2, with so many students bringing in their reading satchels each week and eagerly borrowing new books. Over the past two weeks, 70% of our students have earned a raffle ticket for the chance to win a book prize—an excellent effort that reflects the strong commitment to reading across our school.

Reading at home continues to play a vital role in supporting your child’s learning. It provides regular opportunities to practise important skills, build confidence, and improve fluency and expression. It also helps children expand their vocabulary and deepen their understanding of texts. Most importantly, it nurtures a lifelong love of reading.

We encourage students to revisit texts more than once, as this helps to:

  • Strengthen fluency (reading smoothly)
  • Build confidence
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the text

You might also like to explore reading beyond take-home books. Visiting your local library can be a great way to spark interest and choice in reading. Encourage your child to read a variety of texts in everyday life—such as signs, recipes, magazines, catalogues, or instructions—helping them see that reading is all around us.

Thank you for your continued support in building strong reading habits at home. Together, we are making a real difference in our students’ learning.

Regards,

Mr Dray
