Welcoming Bishop René RCJ

We warmly welcome Bishop René RCJ as the ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Sandhurst.

Bishop René was born in the Philippines and is a member of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus. Before becoming a bishop, he served communities in the Philippines and Australia, including as Parish Priest of St Mel’s Parish in Shepparton South and St Malachy’s Parish in Nagambie.

Bishop René was appointed Bishop of Sandhurst by Pope Leo XIV in April. He was installed as our ninth Bishop at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bendigo on 30 July 2026. Mrs Stockdale and Miss Rasmussen attended this special celebration, joining representatives from parishes, schools and Catholic communities across the Diocese.

As our Bishop, Bishop René will provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to the Catholic communities, parishes and schools across the Diocese of Sandhurst. We pray that he feels warmly welcomed and supported as he begins this new chapter of ministry among us.

Caring for Our Common Home and Community

This week marks the beginning of the Season of Creation—a time when Christians around the world are invited to celebrate and care for God’s creation. It reminds us that caring for our environment also means caring for the people and communities around us.

On Wednesday, students are invited to wear free dress and bring a gold coin donation to support our friends in the St Kilian’s community. This is one small but meaningful way we can live out Jesus’ message:

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” — Luke 6:31

Through our actions, we continue to show Strength and Kindliness by caring for our common home and supporting others in need.

“Encourage one another and build up each other.”

Our words and actions have the power to lift others up. A kind word, some encouragement or simply noticing someone’s efforts can make a real difference to their day.

Jesus calls us to help others feel confident, supported and included. When we build one another up, we strengthen our whole community.
