Year 3 Community

Recently, Year 3 students participated in an engaging and informative waste education incursion presented by Banyule City Council’s Rethink Waste program.

Throughout the session, students explored the different types of common household waste and learnt about the purpose of the bins we use at home. They took part in hands-on activities where they sorted waste into categories such as recycling, general waste, food waste, and compost.

Students also discovered practical skills and helpful tips for reducing waste through recycling and repurposing everyday items. They were encouraged to think carefully about the choices they make and how small actions can have a positive impact on the environment.

A highlight of the incursion was learning about the production cycle of materials including plastic, food, glass, and other everyday products. Students gained a deeper understanding of where products come from, how they are made, and what happens to them after they are thrown away.

The incursion provided valuable knowledge and inspired students to become more environmentally responsible citizens both at school and at home.
