Library News

It was a huge week in the library for Book Week! We kicked celebrations off with a book lover's morning tea at recess where staff and students were invited to bring along their favourite book to share, as well as indulge in some sweet treats. We announced the joint winners of our Design a Bookmark competition; Aaliah of Year 8 and Erin of Year 9. Students are able to get a copy of the bookmark when they borrow a book over the next few weeks. Aaliah and Erin were also presented with a laser cut copy of the bookmark with their design, kindly organised by Mr. Cantone. Ms Barnett and students Kobi and Evie of Year 11 provided live music for the lunch break which was enjoyed by staff and students alike.
Thursday saw our annual Connect Book Week quiz, with students putting their heads together to answer a variety of book themed questions, complete with a scavenger hunt around the school. Congratulations to 11B who came first, with 8F and 10E second and third, respectively. Lunchtime in the library hosted a hotly contested staff vs students Kahoot book quiz, with the staff taking a narrow victory. Our student's book knowledge and enthusiasm was impressive!
Other activities in the library this week were a guess the number of 'bookworms' in a jar competition and the chance to match up a staff member with their first concert, tying in with the 'Symphony of Stories' theme. Finally, a jumbled-up book title was hidden around the library, with students scrambling to find the letters and figure out the book name.
The reading fairy and friends (Wally and a pirate) were out and about every day checking up on how classes were going with Oberon Reads. Once again, there were a variety of winning classes across all year levels, and it was fantastic to see so many students deep in focus reading their novels, magazines and non-fiction books.
