Science Week this year ran from 15 to 23 August with the theme 

"Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All."

To help sow the seeds of scientific curiosity, our Year 7 students participated in immersive virtual reality sessions where they explored the International Space Station and took part in simulated space missions. This exciting learning experience was also extended to all Grade 5 and 6 students from Armstrong Creek School, meaning approximately 400 students experienced some of the wonders of science through VR technology.

Throughout Science Week, students also celebrated the achievements and impact of science by participating in a range of engaging activities, including science-themed challenges, quizzes, and competitions. These events encouraged curiosity,             problem-solving, and a deeper appreciation of how scientific discovery continues to shape our world.

Oberon High School was selected to represent the Geelong region at the inaugural Student Leaders in STEM Forum, where students from all of Victoria’s Tech Schools came together at the Royal Society of Victoria to meet with the Society’s elected Fellows and explore future pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Oberon Year 10 students Raf Hontarigo, Milan Knezevic, Charlie Matherson, Zeke Milnes, and Ahsan Yousufi met with and discussed scientific concepts alongside distinguished Fellows, including Victoria’s Lead Scientist Dr Amanda Caples; Professor Elisabetta Barberio, recognised internationally for her contributions to particle physics and dark matter research; and RSV President Rob Gell, who many will remember as the highly respected weather presenter on Channels 10, 9, and 7.
