Next Wednesday 2nd September we celebrate with our year 6's and students will be participating in the Year 6 Bonanza Day Fundraiser! Our Year 6 students have been studying economics and business within their investigations classes and making strong literacy and numeracy links along the way. The Year 6 students have created a business venture and pitched their ideas and have now been busily preparing for their stalls and are excited to serve classes next Wednesday 2nd September. This is a student only event that will take place during the school day (a timetable for classes will be forwarded to classroom teachers early next week). Please have a look at the information and the products available in the attachments and our end of week newsletter. We have included the prices of each product so that you can provide your children with the correct change, should they wish to purchase something. As stated in the letter attached, please include any money in a named envelope. Thank you in advance for your support of this important student fundraiser!
We want to let families know that the food items will be nut and sesame free, however some items may contain traces of nuts. These items will be clearly signed at each stall. There will also be some gluten free and dairy free options.
Please see your class teacher with any further questions.
Thank you for supporting our hard working Year 6 students!
The Year 6 Students and Staff!

This weekend is the big performance day for our Victorian State Schools Spectacular crew and they have been in Melbourne on Thursday and Friday completing the final rehearsals. It is a massive weekend for the crew and we send out a big thanks to the staff and helpers for supporting and feeding them. We wish the crew all the best and look forward to hearing all about it on Monday. Keep an eye for the local telecast of the 2026 Victorian State Schools Spectacular.

There has been plenty to celebrate over the past fortnight at Surfside with National Science Week (check out our Teaching & Learning page for updates) and Book Week. Book Week celebrated the theme of Symphony of Stories but there was definitely a chorus at Surfside and we were able to celebrate with a range of different activities that highlights a love of reading.

The students enjoyed welcoming parents and carers into their room to read a book, complete an activity or show off their work following the parade:

Throughout the day the students participated in a range of activities including some special presentations from author - Claire Saxby and Surfside's very own author/illustrator - Mel O'Toole. A big thank you to the staff and students for embracing Book Week and a love of Reading and our parents/carers for supporting this fun filled week. Most of all a big thank you to Ms Griffiths and her team for organising another wonderful Book Week. Check out some highlights below:

Our students enjoyed the highlight of every Book Week and that is dressing up as their favourite character and joining our Book Week Parade. The parade was full of themes with plenty of Marvel and DC characters, Willy Wonka's, Dr Seuss characters, dress up themes and many more.

A big thank you to Mrs Lord, the year 6 students and everyone who attended the Great Book Swap throughout the week. There has been such a good range of books on offer to swap for.

We have recently conducted our Architect appointment interviews and we look forward to announcing the group that we will be working with. The submission has been sent to the Secretary of Education and we will update our school community with the announcement as soon as we can.
You may have heard that a new sessional kindergarten is being constructed within our education precinct. The Principal of Bellarine SC is pleased to announce that Meli Kindergartens has been appointed to operate the kindergarten being built at Bellarine Secondary College.
The kindergarten, temporarily known as Bellarine Secondary College Kindergarten, is currently under construction as part of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms and is planned to open in January 2027. The new service will offer two modern learning spaces for three- and four-year-old kindergarten.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.
A random sample of parents / carers have been selected to participate in this year’s survey.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / carers who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to the school directly for survey guides in your language if you require further support. Survey results will be communicated to parents / carers through annual reporting and in the school newsletter when available. Last year we used the survey results to plan our 2026 Annual Implementation Plan. Please speak to the administration team if you would like more information.
