Kindergarten News

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a lovely school holidays with your families and friends.
In Hakea, we have started off the term by introducing Finger Gym! A fine motor program designed to encourage all the children to engage in rotational experiences which fosters hand and finger strength. This is a key step in moving towards school readiness, as we prepare the children for branching outside of their comfort zones, extending their fine motor development, and challenging their abilities. It was so much fun!
The rotational experiences we had this week are:
- Threading with flower beads and pipe cleaners (eye hand co-ordination, pincer grasp, eye tracking and bilateral co-ordination)
- Tennis balls monsters with mouths and fruit to feed them - the children uses tongs to pick up the fruit on their card, squeezed the tennis ball with one hand to open the mouth to put the fruit inside(developing hand strength and pincer grasp)
- Cutting experiences with scissors and leaves (holding scissors correctly and cutting along lines) (practicing scissor skills)
-Using a hole punch to put holes in real leaves (developing finger and hand strength and eye/hand co-ordination and bilateral skills)
Until next time,
love the Hakea team
