Prep News

Welcome back for Term 2!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and lots of yummy chocolate! I want to start by saying how proud I am of all the Preps for how fantastically they have settled back into the routine. They should feel very proud of themselves.
Literacy
This week revised our Stage 2 sounds before we begin Stage 3 next week. We practised our heart words and even made our spelling words out of playdough.
We focused on 2 books this week for reading, one picture book and one non-fiction book. We began investigating what a non-fiction book is and what it contains. We made connections between our lives and families and the families we saw in the books.
Maths
In Maths, we focused on subitising to 5. That means using our superhero eyes to see how many objects there are without counting. We played a fun game where we had to roll a die and then circle that many dots on the page as quickly as possible.
Inquiry
We have started our new inquiry topic, My Family, My Place, My Community. In this unit, students will learn that we belong to families and communities, and that people in our community help keep us safe and healthy. We are exploring this throughout our literacy block as well as inquiry sessions.
Next week we will bring in photos of our families to talk about as a class. Students will come home today with a handout about this. Please fill it out and return it by Tuesday next week.
Reminders:
- Homework starts next week. Please make sure your child’s name is on every piece of clothing they bring to school so we can return it to its rightful owner.
- please remind your child if they cannot find you at pick up time they must stay with the yard duty teacher or go to the office and wait to be picked up. If you are unable to be at school at 3.30pm, please phone the office to advise.
Thank you for a great week!
Kindly,
Felicity Jenkins
