Our English sessions will be driven by InitiaLit and will focus on the below areas:
Spelling
Digraphs (ar, ir, er, ur, ou, ow, ch, oi, ph), trigraphs (ear, eer, air, are) as well as suffix rules and two-syllable words.
Grammar
Adjectives, Noun Groups, Verbs, Adverbs and Prepositions.
Comprehension & Fluency
Reading with fluency, developing vocabulary to support understanding and comprehension developing skills such asking questioning, making connections and visualising.
Storybook Lessons
Narratives that focus on imaginative text writing techniques, such as; The Story of Rosy Dock, You and Me Murrawee, Hist!, The Day the Crayons Came Home and Zoo. These rich texts will provide opportunities for oral language and comprehension development.
Writing
Students will engage in various opportunities to develop both their sentence and text structure by creating informative and persuasive texts this term. They will also create imaginative texts through exploring poetry writing.
Home Reading
Thank you for the support you are giving your child when they are reading at home and for making a note in their diary. This really does help to support and encourage good reading habits, practise effective reading strategies and develop vocabulary.
