ISIC Program

On Tuesday March 24th the ISIC (I Sea I Care) team headed to Sorrento to go on the Moonraker Boat Tour. Ms T was driving the mini bus and we picked up students from Sacred Heart Primary on the way. It was a sunny 29 degrees and the water was very calm. We were all SUPER EXCITED to be heading out to the ocean to see and swim with different marine life. Many schools joined us on the tour and we were all eager to jump on the boat and get going.
Before we headed out, we all got fitted for wetsuits and flippers. Once we boarded, we also got fitted for masks and snorkles. This was to help us swim in the ocean. The water was really calm when we first headed out. Within 15 minutes of us being on the boat, a pod of dolphins surfaced. We were hoping to jump into the ocean and swim with them, but a speed boat came through and scared them away. We stayed for a little longer and waited..... a couple dolphins appeared but they were too far from the boat, so we headed to the seals.
The seals smelt REALLY bad, but once we got in the water we forgot about the smell. They were sunning themselves on the rocks, surrounded by lots of water birds. We swam right near the rocks hoping they’d jump in with us but unfortunately they didn’t. We still had a lot of fun searching for fish and other marine life!
We headed closer to the shore to see if we could find the Weedy Seadragons. They were very hard to spot in the ocean. They camouflage with the seaweed. We got to see at least 3 of them, which was super cool. We headed back to the pier and said goodbye to everyone. This was an experience we will never forget!
Having a whole school celebration for World Ocean Day will be our next big undertaking as a team….more information to come! Ms T
