100 DAYS OF PREP

What a fabulous day for a celebration - Friday 31st July!

Some of our prep students were almost unrecognisable in their attire as ‘100 year 

old people’, where grey hair, rollers, shawls, overalls, moustaches, pipes, pantyhose socks, brooches, pearls and walking sticks were on show!  

A big shout out to our prep teachers and ES for offering the day’s activities and celebrations. Thank you to our families for their efforts and support in making the day such a special one.

Week 4 is already upon us, and as always, the term seems to be flying by. It has been another busy and productive few weeks, with students engaged in a wide range of learning opportunities both in and beyond the classroom.

Our Grade 6 students recently enjoyed a visit from Melbourne AFL players, followed by an excursion to ACMI in Federation Square, where they explored Australia's national museum of screen culture and further developed their media literacy skills.

Across the school, STOMP sessions continue to be a highlight for students, with excitement building for our upcoming school concert. Students with speaking roles have been attending rehearsals with Mrs Seaton, who is dedicating considerable time and expertise to prepare them for the performance. Behind the scenes, Roxy, our Business Manager, and the office team have been working to coordinate ticketing and ensure all the planning and logistics are in place.

Our Leadership Team has also continued supporting teachers through coaching focused on the consistent implementation of Classroom Mastery routines, strengthening classroom practice and creating positive learning environments for our students.

Planning for 2027 has also begun. We are reviewing enrolments and commencing the important work of planning for next year to ensure we continue to provide the best possible learning opportunities for every student.

WORKING BEE

We had another successful working bee, with our Grade 1 families who led a clean-up around the junior playground spaces. NAPLAN Year 3–5 Relative Growth: Celebrating Student Progress and Achievement

Our 2026 NAPLAN Year 3–5 relative growth data provides valuable insight into the progress our students have made. The data highlights a number of areas of strength and demonstrates the positive impact of our school-wide approach to evidence-based teaching and learning.

A significant achievement for Carnegie Primary School has been the outstanding growth demonstrated in Numeracy, with students achieving 92% positive relative growth, well above both similar schools and our network. This reflects the strong foundations built through explicit teaching practices, consistent classroom routines, and a clear focus on developing students’ mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills and confidence.

Students have also achieved strong outcomes in Grammar and Punctuation, with Carnegie students achieving 85% relative growth, exceeding similar schools and the network. This growth reflects our continued emphasis on explicit instruction in literacy, including the systematic teaching of language conventions, sentence structure and editing skills.

Our Spelling results are another area of strength, with Carnegie students achieving 80%, performing above the network average and closely aligned with similar schools. The implementation of Spelling Mastery across the school has supported students to develop consistent spelling knowledge through a structured, sequential and evidence-based approach. Regular practice, cumulative review and explicit feedback have strengthened students’ ability to apply spelling patterns and strategies independently.
