Year 3 River School – Connecting, Exploring and Preparing for Camp
Our latest River School experience brought together connection, curiosity and reflection as students continued to deepen their relationship with Dyoondalup (Point Walter).
Students rotated through three hands-on experiences throughout the day, beginning with a walk to the campsite where they will stay for their Year 3 Overnight Outdoor Learning Program next term. For many students, seeing the campsite helped turn some initial nerves about their first overnight experience into excitement and anticipation.
Across the day, students explored the river environment through sand design and construction, investigating water and the surrounding landscape, and listening to a Noongar story that connected them to the history and meaning of this special place. These experiences encouraged students to draw on previous learning, collaborate, test ideas and develop a deeper understanding of the environment and its stories.
The day finished with a family BBQ and an opportunity to reflect on the students’ River School journey so far, celebrating the growing confidence, curiosity and connection to place that has developed throughout the year.

A Buzzing Bee Incursion!
Our Year 2 students had a wonderful time during our recent Bee Incursion, which connected beautifully with our learning about living things, sustainability and how everything in our environment is interconnected.
Students discovered more about the fascinating world of bees, including how bees make honey, how a hive works, and why bees are so important to our environment. One of the highlights was getting an up-close look at part of a real beehive and seeing the busy bees at work!
The students also enjoyed some fantastic hands-on experiences. They had the opportunity to taste fresh honey and make their very own reusable beeswax wraps, learning how these can be used as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic.
It was a fun, engaging and memorable experience that brought our classroom learning to life. The Year 2s were full of curiosity, asked some fantastic questions and absolutely loved learning more about these incredible little creatures!
