Principal's Report
I have always claimed that our Uralla Central students can do anything, and the last few weeks have certainly confirmed this. From sporting, academic and school based traineeships and apprentices, our students continue to achieve outstanding results at the very highest levels.
Recognition from the NSW Minister for Education and the Secretary of the NSW Department of Education
Uralla Central School has been officially recognised as one of 60 schools across New South Wales for its outstanding growth in Year 1 phonics, marking a significant achievement in early literacy at our school.
The school received a personal letter of congratulations from the NSW Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue Car, and the Secretary of the NSW Department of Education, Murat Dizdar last week. This recognition highlights the school’s dedication to supporting every child’s first steps on their literacy journey.
Being recognised among just 60 schools statewide is no small feat. Our school’s achievement reflects our focus on quality teaching, student engagement, and fostering a nurturing environment where every child can flourish. This is a wonderful achievement.
Congratulations Aidan
We congratulate Aidan Nordstrom who was awarded the Outstanding Apprentice or Trainee Award at the recent Uralla Business Excellence Awards.
Aidan is involved in our school's School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship program. This training pathway is a fantastic opportunity for the young people in our community to gain practical hands-on skills and be trade-qualified as they complete their schooling, ready to provide essential trades and services back into our community and beyond.
We acknowledge Aidan’s commitment to his training, as well as his training partners The Alternate Root and TAFE, and the support he has received from our school and teaching staff for him to progress and achievement at this level.
Congratulations Jett
We acknowledge Jett Williams and his achievements at the recent championship golf event in Sydney. Jett finished 35th out of the 88 boys and was chosen as the North West players player. Jett hit 92 off the stick and had a great couple of days! Well done Jett - you should be very proud!
Gymnastics Success
And finally, even more sporting success recently with Chaise Gibson competing at the CHS Gymnastics event in Newcastle. Chaise achieved the following results:
Men’s Gymnastics Div B Floor - 1st Place
Pommel- 3rd Place
Rings - 1st Place
Overall Div B - 3rd Place
Book Week at Uralla Central School
This week, Uralla Central School has been buzzing with excitement as we celebrate Book Week with a range of engaging activities designed to foster a love of reading among our students.
Today’s Book Week Parade and Assembly truly showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of our school community. Students from both primary and secondary levels come to school dressed in their costumes, bringing beloved book characters to life with imaginative outfits. It was also wonderful to welcome students from TG's Child Care and the Uralla Pre School.
A highlight of this year’s celebration has been the unique competition held across the primary and secondary classes, coordinated by our librarian, Mrs Tobler. Students have been using bell songs as clues to solve puzzles related to books and themes. This has challenged students to think critically and connect the musical hints to find the answer.
Additionally, our Book Fair, open until tomorrow afternoon, has been a popular attraction. It offers a wonderful opportunity for students and families to explore a wide range of books and make selections that inspire further reading at home. The fair not only supports literacy but also helps in raising funds to enhance our school’s library resources.
We would like to extend a big thank you to the staff, students, and families who contributed to the success of Book Week.
Academy Trial Exams
Our Year 11 and 12 students will be completing their trial exams from Monday 7-9 September (Week 8). All students should have a timetable with their subjects listed. Please contact the school if you require further information.
P&C Father's Day Stall
Our incredible P&C committee will be providing a Father's Day stall for students to purchase gifts at school next Wednesday 2 September. The gifts are sold at reduced prices to support students to be able to afford a suitable gift. Please see information below:
Year 12 Graduation Assembly
Our Year 12 students will graduate on Thursday 24 September from 11.30am. We invite all Year 12 students, their families and friends to join us for this special occasion, to farewell them as a whole group for the last time at Uralla Central School. We will hold their Year 12 formal on Friday 6 November, but this will be the last time the students are all together here at school. Please consider joining us on Thursday 24 September to recognise their journey and achievements.
Important Information For External Providers
Please see below, an important change regarding external providers working with our students at Uralla Central School.
We have carefully considered our requirements for duty of care, child protection and our obligations to comply with NSW Department of Education policies and unfortunately, we do not have suitable spaces available that allow us to continue to properly supervise or observe students when they are engaging with most external providers.
As a result, we have made the difficult decision to stop offering opportunities for service providers to work with our students from the last day of Term 3, 2026 (Friday 25 September 2026).
Please know this decision was not made lightly, but the safety and wellbeing of our students must always come first.
There are exceptions for services where confidentiality is essential, such as counselling or psychological support. These types of services, must be from a registered psychologist or an accredited social worker. These professionals are permitted to meet with students privately, as their work requires discretion and privacy, and they meet the necessary standards for safeguarding children.
We value the contribution external providers make to our community and appreciate your understanding of our commitment to child protection and meeting our requirements to comply with NSW Department of Education policies.
