National Simultaneous Storytime

St Mary’s students were some of the 2.28 million Australians to take part in this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime featuring Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A. Minton and published by Little Book Press.

The Year 6 Curriculum Leaders then invited our young creatives to design an official team jersey for the Animal World Cup, inspired by Luna Roo. It was a great opportunity for students to combine creativity, storytelling and sport in one fun challenge. All entries received a certificate of participation. Five outstanding designs were selected to be entered into the National Competition. These designers will be announced at assembly on Friday.

Some classes enjoyed the live drawing demonstration from the artist Jake Minton, as he talked about how he created the character of Luna Roo. These photos are of the Year 4 students following his instructions.

Library News

Winter has arrived and with it the prospect of snuggling under a fluffy doona with a book whilst it rains outside!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Read More in May initiative. I was thrilled to see the number of books borrowed jump from our April number of 680 it was so great  to see how involved the students were in the campaign!  Overall we borrowed 775 books in May!!!  I loved seeing how excited everyone was to contribute to this number and for them to continue to use their reading bookmarks. The sense of satisfaction when I was handed back a full bookmark was priceless!

Thank you to the parents that ordered from the Book Club last month. Any vouchers earned can be redeemed in the new Book Club magazine which is out now. I don't distribute these as paper copies, but I have attached the link below. The catalogue is available online and orders can be made on line. Check your email for your voucher.
